News Jan 2017

The business meeting was quite a lively one this month, with lots to discuss and many activities to plan for, including the Regional Meeting, a theatre visit, the Federation Conference in Cardiff and the Carlisle Charter Anniversary. The Carlisle Club is celebrating seventy-five years and so the celebration is taking the form of an afternoon tea with a speaker, and guests are asked to dress in 1940s fashion! Cockermouth Club has turned thirty-five and the three founder members who are still with the club, (Wendy Dempster, Angela Winkworth and Dorothy Jackson,) were presented with their long service awards. Wendy and Angela received theirs at the meeting but Dorothy, who has had a nasty fall, was presented with hers at home.

Club member, Jane Inman, who is Northern England Regional President this year, is having her conference at Rheged, with the theme, Women Inspiring Action. There are several inspirational speakers booked, including Sue Hayman M.P., Jane Walker M.B.E. and Rebecca Weston. (For further details see our web-site)

A Programme Planning meeting was also held to organize the 2017 -2018 programme. Again there are many interesting events and speakers.

Soroptimist International of Cockermouth and District meets on the first and third Thursday each month at VeeVa!. If this sounds the kind of organization you might enjoy, you would be made very welcome. For more information, please contact us via the web-site. There is also an informal coffee morning on the second Monday of the month, at the Lakes Home Centre in Cockermouth at 10.30. Why not come along to that? We don’t discuss business there, we just chat!
